The Marlboro Civic Center and the Kinney Foundation present The John Brown Little Big Band Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at 7PM.

The John Brown Little Big Band is an 11-piece jazz band with a BIG sound, featuring piano, stand-up bass, saxophone, trumpet and much more.

John Brown, director of the band, is an award winning, GRAMMY-nominated bassist, gifted composer, educator, actor, and is the Director of the Jazz Program at Duke University. He has performed as a jazz bassist in Hawaii for President and Mrs. Barack Obama and as a concert bassist with the North Carolina Orchestra featuring solos cellist Itzhak Perlman.

The Little Big Band members have performed in the United States and abroad with artists like Wynton Marsalis, Ellis Marsalis, Nnenna Freelon, Diahann Carroll, Rosemary Clooney, Nell Carter, Slide Hampton,  Lou Donaldson, and Mark Whitfield to name a few.

The John Brown Little Big Band performs a wide range of jazz styles including the timeless classics of the Great American Songbook, original versions and new arrangements of traditional jazz standards, modern jazz pieces and original compositions including – It’s Almost Like Being in Love, Mack the Knife, Lulu’s Back in Town, and Make Someone Happy.

Besides giving an outstanding evening performance while in Bennettsville, local Marlboro County High School and Marlboro School of Discovery Jazz Ensembles will receive valuable insights on the genre of jazz with “hands on” workshops/instruction from John Brown.

Reserved tickets go on sale for Civic Center members on April 5 and to the general public on April 9. Adult tickets are $15 and student tickets are $10.
